What this tool does not do

  • No: WYSIWYG editing — this is a Markdown editor; the right pane is a preview
  • No: Collaboration or shared documents
  • No: Cloud storage — optional drafts are device-local and never uploaded
  • No: Exact page-layout preview — margins, breaks and footers come from the export

What people use Markdown Editor for

Draft with formatting confidenceWrite with the live preview beside you — tables, task lists and code render as you type, so syntax mistakes surface immediately rather than after export.
Hand off to Word or PDF in one clickFinish a draft in the editor, then export to Word or PDF without copying anything anywhere — the same engine as the dedicated converters runs on your text.
A scratchpad for GFM syntaxTest a tricky table or a nested list before pasting it into a README, issue or PR — what the preview shows is what GitHub renders.

Frequently asked questions

Does the editor auto-save my document?

Only if you opt in. 'Remember on this device' stores a draft locally in your browser for 7 days; you can clear it anytime with the Clear button. Documents are never uploaded.

Can I export to Word or PDF from the editor?

Yes — one click on 'Export to Word' or 'Export to PDF' converts your document using the same engine as the dedicated Markdown→Word / Markdown→PDF tools, without leaving the editor.

Can I open an existing .md file?

Yes — “Choose file” loads any .md or text file from your device, and “Download .md” writes your draft back out. Nothing is uploaded in either direction.

Where does “Remember on this device” store drafts?

In your browser's local storage, keyed to this site, kept for 7 days. The draft never leaves your computer and you can erase it any time with the Clear button.

Does the preview show exactly what the Word/PDF export will look like?

It is a faithful formatting preview, not page-layout proofing — margins, page breaks and footers come from the export engine. That is what the fidelity report is for before you download.

What Markdown flavour does the editor support?

GitHub-flavored Markdown (GFM): tables, task lists, strikethrough, fenced code, blockquotes, links and LaTeX math — the same coverage the export engines support.

Is there a dark mode?

Yes, and it follows the main site: toggle dark mode on any DocsFast page and the embedded editor follows automatically.

Is this a WYSIWYG Markdown editor?

No — and that is deliberate. You write raw Markdown on the left and see the formatted preview update live on the right, which is the workflow most Markdown tools (GitHub, Obsidian, VS Code) are built around.

Can I test GitHub-flavored Markdown syntax here?

Yes. The preview implements GFM — tables, task lists, strikethrough, fenced code and math — so you can sanity-check syntax before committing it to a README, issue or pull request.

Does the editor work without an account?

Yes. There is nothing to sign up for; drafts stay in your browser's local storage only if you opt in, and exporting to Word or PDF uses the same local engine as the dedicated tools.
